Marine Recovery Loan eligible industries

RIC Marine Recovery Loan is available for aquaculture and wild catch fishing businesses impacted by the marine harmful algal bloom first detected in March 2025 off the coast of South Australia.

Activities eligible for RIC Marine Recovery Loan are listed under the aquaculture and wild catch fishing subdivisions of the ANZSIC codes.

Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms, including fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. Farming also implies individual or corporate ownership of the stock being cultivated. Aquacultural activities include the controlled breeding, raising or farming of fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants used for human consumption.

Wild catch fishing

Wild catch fishing is the harvesting of fish or other aquatic organisms from wild, naturally occurring populations in their natural environment

Aquaculture activities includes:

  • offshore farming of mussel, oyster, abalone and seaweed
  • offshore farming using cages for finfish, salmon, trout and tuna
  • onshore farming using ponds or tanks for crustacean, fish breeding, fish farming, paua, prawn, salmon, trout, tuna and yabby.

Wild catch fishing business activities includes:

  • offshore farming of mussel, oyster, abalone and seaweed
  • offshore farming using cages for finfish, salmon, trout and tuna
  • onshore farming using ponds or tanks for crustacean, fish breeding, fish farming, paua, prawn, salmon, trout, tuna and yabby.
